Orthos are teaming up with Laarmann, our new partners for sample preparation equipment, for a UK tour in their mobile demonstration unit.

During the last week of February, personnel from Orthos and Laarmann will showcase the range of sample preparation and lab equipment.  The fully operational demo machines include a Jaw Crusher, Cutting Mill, Mortar Grinder, Sample Divider, Lab Wizz and Test Sieve.

Orthos are delighted to report we can now offer you the comprehensive range of solid materials processing and sample preparation equipment from our new partners the Laarmann Group.  Within their variety of mills, crushers and grinders, you’re sure to find the right equipment to convert your bulk material sample into a form ready for analysis.  An array of sample dividers and test sieves completes Laarmann’s product range.

Orthos sales manager, Andrew Reynolds, explains “for many years Orthos have supplied the British and Irish process industries with automatic samplers from our principals Sentry Equipment and M&W Jawo Handling, but we never had anything in our line-up before to process the material collected by our samplers.  Now that all changes thanks to our partnership with Laarmann, extending our scope to include not only the sampler but also the downstream equipment to prepare samples for analysis”

Responding to the decision Andrew Reynolds (Sales Manager of Orthos) commented “it’s a shame Netzsch-Condux have decided to go back to their previous arrangement, but in a tough market like the UK where they have several strong competitors, perhaps it was a challenge too great for Orthos to overcome“.

Far from being downbeat, Reynolds added “This change of approach by Netzsch only goes to benefit Orthos’ remaining principals because we’ve redeployed the sales resource into certain other areas of process equipment we represent, such as screw heat exchangers and vibrating screens“.

Here’s a fun story for a Friday…

Earlier today Orthos were paid a visit by a team of Superheros from logistics specialists TGW Limited (our neighbours across the street at The Point in Market Harborough).  Angie, Jane, Dempsey and Jo were circulating the business park collecting donations for the Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People in the east midlands.

“Superhero Friday” is part of the charity’s Children’s Hospice Week, culminating in Walk of Lifeon Sunday 22nd of May at Leicestershire Country Cricket Club.

Everyone at Orthos wish all the Superheros involved the very best of luck.  It’s good to know help’s not far away!

From the MHEA 2011 Bulk Handling Conference in North Lincolnshire, Orthos Firefly sales engineer Justin Hamilton reported 120 delegates and speakers in attendance.  Amongst many other topics presented were some of the Hazards associated with Biomass Handling & Storage.  In his presentation, Dan Birkett from Portasilo commented:

“Silo fires are notoriously difficult to extinguish and this can often be a protracted affair, the fire will be much easier to control and extinguish if self-heating is detected early”

This is where Firefly’s innovative multi gas detection system for protecting biomass storage silos can provide state-of-the-art protection.  The MGD works by detecting the “smell” of burning material much earlier than conventional smoke detectors can.  There was much interest shown in the MGD by those attending.  The general response to the conference by all in attendance was very positive, with many staying on for the Annual MHEA Golf Day at the neighbouring Forest Pines Golf Course.
